Iconic Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 De Ultimate, has formally announced his intention to be considered for the revered throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In a letter dated December 3, 2025, and addressed to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, the 68-year-old music legend expressed his desire to succeed the late monarch, citing his deep-rooted lineage and long-standing service to Ijebu culture.
KWAM 1, who holds the titles of Mayegun of Yorubaland (2020), Olori Omo-Oba, and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu (conferred in 2023 by the late Awujale), as well as the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), said his ambition is based on his ancestry.
He wrote,
“I am a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing my ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage, which qualifies me for consideration under Ijebu customary law and Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.”
Born on March 3, 1957, the Fuji maestro emphasized that his five-decade career has been devoted to promoting Ijebu, Yoruba, and Nigerian culture on the global stage through music and cultural enterprise.
Confirming receipt of his letter, Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, appealed for calm and unity among family members.
He noted that responses have been issued to all individuals who have expressed interest in the throne, assuring that the selection process is nearing a peaceful conclusion.
“In Sha Allah, we shall have cause to rejoice within a matter of weeks,” he said,
