EDUCATION DISTRICT IV HOSTS DUKE OF EDINBURGH, PRINCE EDWARD, AT NEW ERA GIRLS’ SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Education District IV welcomed His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward Anthony Richard Louis, to New Era Girls’ Senior High School, Surulere, in a historic visit that further strengthens global collaboration in youth development and educational advancement.

The distinguished visit was hosted by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Lagos State, alongside the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV. Students and staff received the Duke with great excitement, showcasing cultural performances as well as various innovations and leadership projects.

In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, expressed profound appreciation for the Duke’s commitment to empowering young people through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. He noted that the visit reinforces Lagos State’s dedication to nurturing globally competitive learners.

“Your Royal Highness, your presence today is an inspiration to every student here. Lagos State remains committed to building strong partnerships that expand opportunities for our children. We thank you for your lifelong dedication to youth development and for recognising the vibrant potential within our students,” he said.

He added that the Lagos State Government, under the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will continue to strengthen programmes that foster discipline, leadership, creativity, and community service among secondary school learners.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV, Mr Olufemi Bamidele Paseda emphasised the importance of global exposure and experiential learning.

“We are honoured to host Your Royal Highness. This visit motivates our students to pursue excellence and embrace the values of resilience, responsibility, and leadership. Education District IV remains committed to producing well-rounded learners who can compete on international platforms,” he stated.

He further commended the staff and students of New Era Girls’ Senior High School for their outstanding preparation and for representing the District with pride and distinction.
