As I stand on the historic grounds of Ile Ife, I am filled with a mix of emotions – pride, nostalgia, and a deep sense of sadness. This ancient city, cradle of humanity, and birthplace of the Yoruba nation, deserves to be a shining example of progress and development. Instead, it pains me to acknowledge that Ile Ife lags behind in various aspects of development.
For too long, we have witnessed inadequate infrastructure, poor road networks, and insufficient access to quality education and healthcare. These challenges have hindered the growth and potential of our people, leaving many to seek greener pastures elsewhere.
As a politician, I take responsibility for my part in this narrative. We have had opportunities to shape the destiny of Ile Ife, and we have fallen short. The lack of collective action, the squabbles over petty interests, and the dearth of visionary leadership have all contributed to our collective failure.
But I refuse to use this platform solely to lament. I believe that it’s not too late to change the narrative. We can work together to identify solutions, pool resources, and implement projects that will transform Ile Ife. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the ancestors who entrusted us with this sacred responsibility.
Let us put aside our differences and work towards a common goal – the development of Ile Ife. Let us harness our collective potential, tap into our rich cultural heritage, and build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.
Action for Change
To the good people of Ile Ife, I urge you to join me in this journey of transformation. Let us demand better from ourselves and our leaders. Let us work together to identify solutions and implement projects that will benefit our community.
To my fellow politicians, I say let us put the interests of Ile Ife above personal ambitions. Let us work towards a collective vision for the development of our city.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can build a brighter future for Ile Ife.
Hon. Rotimi Makinde
