A former governorship aspirant in Edo State and veteran media personality, High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye has praised the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) for introducing significant relief measures for manufacturers and critical sectors of the economy, with the exemption of raw materials, spare parts, and certain machinery from the payment of the 4% Free on Board levy.
Idinye also hailed Adeniyi’s remarkable business-friendly reforms marking a new era of symbiotic collaboration with investors and other key players in the country’s business climate. According to him the appointment of Adeniyi by President Bola Tinubu was well thought out and in best interest of the country.
He further highlighted various initiatives introduced by the service to enhance ease of doing business, including increase in revenue profile of the country within a shortest possible time.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Ibadan, Idinye who is also a winner of over 32 different professional awards locally and internationally in Maritime Reporting and Customs activities said:
“I must commend the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi for encouraging stakeholders’ engagements and accommodating matters of trade facilitation, industrial development, and economic growth for the overall well-being of Nigerian citizens. This is an important issue that is fundamental to everyone who cares about the Nigeria and it will no doubt help us resolve operational challenges and foster inclusive policy formulation in the country’s business climate,” he said.
Continuing, “The CG has taken significant relief measures for manufacturers and critical sectors of the Nigeria’s economy, with the exemption of raw materials, spare parts, and certain machinery from the payment of the 4% Free on Board levy. This policy shift will form a big relief for importers of commercial airline spare parts are among those exempted from the levy listed under Chapters 98 and 99 of the Customs Tariff. Why we commend the CG for a job well done, I think manufacturers already captured under these chapters should also try to apply for pre-release of consignments to avoid demurrage charges.
“President Bola Tinubu should also share in this major milestone as we can all recall that he was the one in his wisdom who appointed this current CG and since then, the country has been better for it. Mr. Adeniyi is a thorough bred public officer who has contributed immensely to the growth of the country’s revenue profile in alignment with this administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Through the CG, the federal government reforms at the nation sea ports have started yeilding positive results with the introduction of B’odogwu scheme at the nation seaport with the assurance of the CG that the system will enable the service to generate more revenue that will ultimately support government’s policies. Similarly, Comptroller Frank Onyeka who is in sync with the CG also said that his command will continue to fight against non payment of customs duty to governments. He practically introduced B odogwu scheme, which has generated huge revenue for the nation. The CG and his team are all well cut out for the job and I once again give kudos to the President for making this happen.
“He has strong command of customs regulations, laws, and procedures, as well as, the ability to navigate and adapt to changing policies and regulations. He has demonstrated excellent communication and leadership skills responsible for leading teams of customs officials, working closely with stakeholders across a variety of industries, including manufacturers, exporters and importers of various goods, in over three decades.
“Mr. Adeniyi built strong relationships with stakeholders and collaborated effectively to ensure efficient and effective movement of goods across borders, over the course of his career. He has a keen eye for details and ability to identify potential risks and areas of non-compliance.
“This is evident in effective risk management strategies, guidance and support developed and implemented for his teams to ensure that all customs procedures are followed accurately and efficiently. He is dedicated to promoting trade and economic growth while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
“He is known to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, as well as, committed to continuously improving his knowledge and skills to stay ahead of the ever-changing customs landscape and scope of duties.”
