Nigeria at 64: A Call to Resilience, Vision, and Unity, By Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen

Spread the love

Fellow Nigerians and the resilient people of Edo State,

As we mark the 64th anniversary of our beloved nation’s independence, we stand at a crossroads. Our political economy is in dire straits, and the struggles our people face daily are a painful reminder of the challenging times we live in. Inflation, rising interest rates, and surging utility and fuel prices have placed an enormous burden on households across the country.

Even in the face of these challenges, let us not forget who we are. We are a resilient people, whose strength has carried this nation through difficult times before, and whose endurance will see us through these present trials.

As we celebrate our independence, I appeal to our leaders and key actors: do not abuse the sacred trust placed in your hands. Our democracy, hard-earned and cherished, must never be a playground for the abuse of power. The politics of division and “winner takes all” has never built nations; instead, it sows seeds of chaos. Let us strive for a nation where every voice is heard, and where the best among us lead with integrity and purpose.

As we honour our flag and reflect on our journey, let us also pray for Nigeria to be blessed again not just with politicians, but with visionary statesmen, who will guide us toward a future of hope, unity, and prosperity.

God bless Edo State.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Happy Independence Day!
