Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified that some parts of his writings about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may have been misunderstood or taken out of context.

Speaking in response to renewed public debate surrounding his past statements and published accounts, Obasanjo noted that while his book aimed to present a candid and factual reflection of his time in office, particularly his working relationship with Atiku, it was never intended to deliberately tarnish his former deputy’s image.

“It has come to my attention that certain aspects of my book have been misinterpreted, especially as they relate to Atiku Abubakar,” Obasanjo said. “My intention was to provide an honest account based on my perspective and experience, not to incite unnecessary controversy.”

Obasanjo emphasized that political leadership is complex and that differences in opinion or strategy are natural in governance. He acknowledged Atiku’s contributions during their time in office and called for more focus on facts and context rather than selective quoting or sensationalism.

The former president urged readers and commentators to engage with the full content of his book to gain a balanced understanding of the issues discussed, rather than relying on excerpts that may distort the broader message.

This statement comes amid ongoing political conversations where past relationships between key figures continue to influence public perception
and political narratives.”
