The newly elected Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Abayomi Tella, says he will ensure the party is rejuvenated, rebuilt, and repositioned for success in the state.

Tella made this statement after his election at the party’s state congress supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abeokuta on Saturday.

He pledged that his leadership would restore the party’s heritage and identity as one of the ruling political parties.

He emphasised that the true identity of the PDP was not that of an opposition party but of a strong, ruling party. Tella added that returning to power was imminent and must happen in the next polls.

He lamented that the party had gone through a series of undeserved traumas, including unnecessary internal friction and judicial interventions.

However, he expressed optimism that the party was ready to mend fences and move forward.

“I must say that our true identity is not that of opposition. Returning to our heritage as a ruling party is imminent and must happen in the next polls.

“We must attribute the success of today’s congress to various eminent individuals who were instrumental to this God-ordained project.”

“Ogun State PDP will be proudly rejuvenated, rebuilt, revamped, and repositioned for success in the coming elections, by the grace of God,” Tella said.

While thanking the outgoing executives, Tella remarked: “We need one another, and working together again should neither be difficult nor impossible.”

“The 2027 project is the major item on the agenda for this newly elected executive, and it requires all hands on deck,” he added.

Speaking on the party’s plans, the newly elected chairman stated that the executive would implement policies and strategies to consolidate internal cohesion and unity.

He added that the party would also expand its membership by vigorously promoting the undying desire to bring much-needed relief to the people of Ogun State.

On August 31, 2024, Dada Awoleye presided over the state ward congress as the caretaker chairman of the PDP in the state.

Awoleye succeeded Sikirulai Ogundele, who was reportedly not on good terms with Ladi Adebutu, the party’s governorship candidate in the last general election.
