Five years after the demise of the former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru friends, aides, family and associates have come out to offer prayers while also celebrating what they described as his enduring legacies.
It is recalled that Dr. Baru dead in May 2020 at 60.
Amongst those who remembered Baru on Monday, July 7, 2025 was the former Group General Manager, at the NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu MFR.
Ughamadu, a lawyer, economist, journalist, public relations practitioner and former Editor of Daily Times and Business Times in a statement to mark five years of Baru’s death seen by Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com), described him as a man of vision who emplaced the Corporation on the path of growth, transformation and profitability.
The sexagenarian wrote, “A consummate, First Class Honour’s Engineer and leader, Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru’s bold vision of 12 BUFS as Group Managing Director, NNPC, emplaced the Corporation – as it then was- on the path of growth, transformation and profitability.
“His inspiring impressive reign kickstarted the ongoing oil exploratory activities in major inland basins across the country.
“As a person, Dr Baru was humility personified. He was a true leader, a visionary and role model to many.
“Five years on, the cerebral Dr Baru’s memory is still honoured by family, friends, aides, associates and the global community.
“Rest on, the ever-smiling Dr. Baru!”
