Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has forwarded the list of 12 commissioners-designate to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.The governor nominated the commissioners-designate 108 days after his inauguration for a second term on February 24, 2025.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor sent a letter to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, requesting the confirmation of the nominees.
Aiyedatiwa stated that “in exercise of the power conferred on me by Section 192 (1 & 2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I wish to forward to your esteemed office the following commissioner nominees for your kind consideration and confirmation of the House of Assembly.”
He added that, “I shall be most obliged to the Honourable House for your expeditious action on this request in the overall interest of our dear state.”
The nominees include Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun (former Rector, RUGIPO and Former Vice-Chancellor, AAUA); Abiola Olawoye (Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing), Ayodele Akande, Alabi Johnson, Amidu Takuro, Adewale Akinlosotu and Mr Idowu Ajanaku .
Others are Dr Oluwaseun Osamaye, Dr Tob Loko, Olaolu Akindolire, Sunday Olajide and Henry Omoyofunmi. On January 15, 2025, Aiyedatiwa had dissolved his cabinet ahead of his inauguration, with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, and the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac, retained.
Meanwhile, it was observed that key loyalists of the governor, who were expected to be appointed, were not on the 12-man list sent to the Assembly. The loyalists of Aiyedatiwa missing on the list include Rasak Obe (former Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources); Gbenga Omole (Special Adviser on Transport); Muhammed Ajowa (former Special Adviser on Special Duties); and Oluwafemi Fadairo (Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement).
