The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has sealed a groundbreaking partnership with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), a move hailed as a game-changer for the league’s visibility and engagement with fans nationwide.

NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, described the agreement—facilitated by GTI Group—as a strategic initiative to enhance the popularity of Nigeria’s top-tier league both locally and internationally.

With this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Radio Nigeria, Africa’s largest radio network, will once again bring live match commentaries to millions of football-loving Nigerians.

“I remember those days when Radio Nigeria commentators gave the league the vibe and visibility it deserved. The voice of Ernest Okonkwo will not be forgotten easily,” Elegbeleye said. “We in the NPFL want Nigerians to enjoy the best of radio commentaries again. This MoU will help us bring the magic of the league to homes, cars, and every football fan in the country.”

FRCN Director-General, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, an ardent football enthusiast, expressed excitement over the return of live league commentaries on the network.

“I used to have a voracious appetite for football literature, and I never missed the back page of newspapers for my sports updates. While I’ve never organized or actively participated in sporting programs, this partnership gives me a taste of what it means to be involved in sports administration,” Dr. Bulama said.

While no specific timeline was provided for the deal, Elegbeleye emphasized that Radio Nigeria’s extensive reach and longstanding reputation made the collaboration a natural fit, describing it as part of the broadcaster’s corporate social responsibility.

With this renewed partnership, the NPFL is set to recapture the golden era of football radio commentary, reigniting passion for the domestic league and strengthening its fan base across Nigeria.
