The political rivalry between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his predecessor as Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, intensified Friday night during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today monitored by Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com).

Responding to a question on whether he was corrupt, Wike said no court had ever convicted him of corruption, adding: “Nobody can do without money… You cannot say because I said I need money to solve this or that, therefore I am corrupt.”

In a pointed dig at Amaechi, Wike claimed to come from a far more comfortable background.

“My father was one of the few people who had duplexes on Ikwere Road [in Port Harcourt]. Not too rich, I agree, but not at the level Amaechi came from. It’s not comparable at all.”

The remark comes just days after Amaechi dared Wike to walk the streets of Port Harcourt without security to determine who was more popular in Rivers State.

Their political faceoff, a long-standing feud dating back to their days in the same political camp, continues to dominate headlines as both figures angle for influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
